Trendy New Excuse for Using Women for Sex: 'Her Profile Pic Was Misleading'

Here are a couple of super-thoughtful insights on that from participants in the study:


“It’s Tinder—I would say your chances of getting sex go up if a girl’s lied on her profile.”


“I’ve been very misled by very selective pictures and angles when the person isn’t as attractive, or as slim, or sporty as they make out on pictures. I try to swerve [British slang for bail] if possible, or get something out of it.”


It’s clear that these men feel like they are owed something for being let down. And yet, they are probably guilty of beefing up their photos, too. As the study’s author, Jenny van Hooff, Ph.D., explained at a conference yesterday, dating apps like Tinder encourage both men and women to “present the best possible branded version of themselves.” Usually, that involves a little photo editing.

Sure, the Valencia Instagram filter might not follow you around in real life, but not being a perfect match with your profile pic does not excuse creepy frat-bro behavior. Whatever happened to enjoying the conversation and the drink, and then politely calling it a night?
